How do you build a killer resume when you’re so busy working a full-time gig?

Working full-time can prevent you from pursuing your dream job. Whether it’s whipping up desserts at your own bakery shop or exploring the Amazon in search of new animal species, the dreams you once aspired to achieve should not be set aside completely to satisfy short-term needs.

Here are some ways to establish the career you are truly passionate about while still paying your bills.

Request Set a Schedule

This can appear to be an impossible task for those who work in an industry that requires constant shift changes and rotations. But given enough work experience and tenure, it’s definitely possible. Request a permanent schedule, or at least one that is set for a few months at a time. This enables you to take online courses or attend physical schools to accumulate subject credits.

Pursue Advanced Courses

You don’t have to put your education on hold. Look for online or night-time graduate courses that fit your work schedule. If you’ve already earned a degree, you’re probably well on your way to having an incredible resume. But don’t overlook master’s programs just because you’re a working professional.

Volunteer

Weekends are your friend when adding some good points to your resume. For example: Want to break into the medical field? Volunteering at blood drives or local healthcare centers provides a good introduction to the field. Your volunteer work also serves as valuable experience when you look for work in that field.

Get Everyone on Board

Family, friends, and colleagues can either help you or make it difficult to juggle your time between full-time work and a pursuit of another profession. Tell them your plans and ask them for help. It will be easier for you to avoid those late night movie marathons or decline the regular family picnics.

Thinking of breaking into another profession? But it sounds overwhelming? Worried about the finite resources available as you make the transition. All valid concerns.
